Leaves of Blue
In Autumn…
I stand staring
At the grey bleakness of sky with bare trees
silhouetetted.
And, like them, am lonely and uncovered.
In Autumn…
Grey,
Heavy as leaden clouds surround my soul with fog.
I hear the wind sing out your name, expecting no response,
Save the echo of silence.
In Autumn…
Blazing colors beautifully dying,
Mocking the misery of feeling, struggling to surface
through song, smell or sound,
And I, worn and tired, give way to the swelling
stream flowing over my face,
Bittersweet release.
In Autumn…
Spirit pleads with spirit,
For hope and faith, reminding me of the temporary
nature of the dark.
Arguing the word “Forever” in my mind,
A single silver snowflake falls to meet the Earth.
The long cold winter will give birth to spring,
And once again the jonquils.
