Personally I think your lunch and app actions are both brave and brilliant, and I'd imagine that it's the prevalent time vampires who are doing most of the whining.

Instead I made the mistake of putting the request out on Craigslist. You wouldn't believe the number of people on there who will apply for everything that comes up -- qualified or not! Or ask a zillion questions before they lower themselves to apply. As a result, I got over 100 applicants and it was a huge time sucker to get it down to a core of people I could work with.
