Turns out, the black scum was really “black gold”. Oil. (Or, as the guy sings on the Beverly Hillbillies, “Texas Tea.”) The farm became known as “Drake’s Well” and later, the town of Titusville was build around it.
That lowly farm produced hundreds of millions of dollars in crude oil.
The kicker: His cousin in Canada, the first owner, never did find much oil. The man went to his grave poor and ignorant, as the first major US oil rig happily pumped millions of dollars of oil a day right from his old backyard.
The cause of poverty and misfortune?
Ignorance.
Not knowing how much wealth he was already sitting on.

Now think about that for a minute… is it really possible that 12,300 people, from all different walks of life that have stumbled on his list from dozens of sources… is it really possible that all of these people have the same aspirations, the same interests, the same dreams, the same core buying motivations?
Not likely. Even a husband and wife celebrating their 50 year anniversary doesn’t always share the same aspirations, interests, dreams or buying motivations. Why in the world would you talk to all the people on your email list the same?
What I am saying is this:
When your email messages nail your customers’ sweet spot 2X more often, and the number of irrelevant messages from you drops in half, it becomes surprisingly easy to make 50% to 300% more money.

Even experienced marketers talk and think about their list as “the list” – as a single block of people who they are trying to coax into buying.
80/20 says: Treating everyone alike is always a mistake. In fact, it is a pretty good guess that about 80% of those people read your first… maybe second email… and then got distracted and would be OK if they never heard from you again.

Q: I don’t have an email list yet. Will this report be valuable to me?
A: Yes. If you are even considering putting a serious online business together, your “river of gold” is your email list. Why not start off building your list using the most profitable techniques available today? It just makes sense to maximize your time and resources right off the bat.
Q: What technology do I need to do this? Am I going to have to shell out more money for that too?
A: Segmenting your list can be done with just about any autoresponder software or system. So, yeah, you’ll need to get an AR system if you don’t have one… but you’re going to need that no matter how you segment your lists. The good news is a basic AR system is only around $19 a month. I personally use Infusionsoft, which is 20X that amount… but then again, I’m not just starting out. As you grow, your needs will demand a system like Infusionsoft and your revenues will justify it a thousand times over. If you are not there yet, get something like AWeber or 1ShoppingCart – they’ll work just fine for now.
Q: What if I only have a few hundred names on my list?
A: Well, I don’t know what revenues a few hundred names produces for you, but I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t be mad if that figured doubled or tripled in just a few months. I’ve never seen a business list that’s not organized according to my system that doesn’t have real money lurking inside of it. Plus, by segmenting your list appropriately, you are actually treating people better. The result is that you’ll be able to grow your list faster and more profitably.
Q: What if I haven’t emailed my list in a year?
A: If you are not actively growing your business right now and don’t plan on beginning, then don’t waste your money on this report. It’s not the magic bullet that will take your inert business and instantly make it profitable. However, if you are ready to start creating consistent income streams than the smartest thing you can do is effectively segment your list, sent them a painfully apologetic note for ignoring them over the past 12 months, and let them choose in or out.
