The immortal philosopher, Yogi Berra, once said, “It’s like deja vu all over again”. And sometimes, when I see what’s happening with Facebook advertising – and how it parallels the Google Adwords story from years ago – I feel a lot like the Hall of Fame catcher.
This time the deja vu has to do with a viral video called “Facebook Fraud”. And here’s why I’m feeling like Yogi…
Back a number of years ago, Google started suggesting that advertisers employ Google’s Adwords Account Representatives who would assist advertisers in optimizing their campaigns.
How sweet of them to offer such a service.
Well, if you were there for that little sleigh ride, you can attest that it quickly became clear that one of three things was true about those Adwords account managers…
- They knew a WHOLE lot less about Google Adwords than the ninjas in Planet Perry, or…
- They were giving deliberately sketchy advice to make more money for Google…(not make more money for the advertiser they were supposedly helping) or…
Doesn’t matter which was true. The bottom line was, if you wanted to avoid the Google Adwords Stupidity Tax, you didn’t hire Google to help you.
Now it’s Facebook’s turn. In the video I mentioned, the guy says there are two ways to “buy Likes”.
- Either hire a click farm and get low quality, low engagement Likes from $1-an-hour workers in Malaysia who sit there and click Like button all day…or
- Hire Facebook to get Likes for you…and get the exact.same.thing.
Yogi is stepping to the plate.
Of course, there is a third option.
Manage your own darn account and get leads and customers the RIGHT way and let the Likes come as a natural byproduct.
In about 11 minutes, Facebook genius, Keith Kranc, shows why the shenanigans Facebook might be pulling are totally irrelevant to real advertisers. Advertisers who are unwilling to turn the management of their account over to the very guys they’re paying to advertise with!
Keith then goes on to show how REAL Facebook advertisers are getting targeted, converting, PAYING customers. Not just “Likes”.
