The first class of Perry Marshall Academy ended on November 30th. After six months of digging into the foundations of New Renaissance Club…after 5 team action calls….after 3 one-on-one calls…what was the topic everyone wanted to discuss on the Final team call? Yup. The one I’ve been talking about for the last few days. .
Moving from Work Ethic Work…to Renaissance Work.
Moving from predictable productive work to unpredictable productive work.
The longer I work with entrepreneurs, the more I’m convinced that this is THE challenge we all must overcome if we want to grow our business.
Here is one BIG reason this is such a thorny challenge…
Your mind loves predictability.
It loves to just chug along in those well-worn grooves. It loves repetition and patterns. It loves to chase a number. It loves to obsess. And money is as good a focus for its obsession as anything.
This is the grand seduction of Quadrant 2, the soothing nature of predictability.
You have to (almost violently!) force your mind out of this predictability.
Because it will not go of its own accord.
The symptom of being stuck in Quadrant 2 is: You think,
If I wasn’t doing this, I’m not sure what else I would do instead. Besides, if I stop, I’ll get soft and my competitors will eviscerate me. Gotta keep my shoulder to the wheel!”
The Big Quadrant 2 Question: Can you outsource what you do…even what you’re good at, even what you like to do, even what makes you good money…in order to free yourself to discover what you’re great at it, what you love to do, and what will radically change your business and your life…and maybe alter the lives of millions?
In my high school there was a teacher named Randy McCutcheon. One year he won the Nebraska State Teacher of the Year Award. Then at the end of the school year he announced he was quitting.
“You’re quitting? Whatever for?”
“Because,” he said, “I climbed to the top of this mountain. Time to climb another one.”
That’s the original spiritual basis of the “work ethic,” right? You’ve only got one life. Your job is to make the world a better place. Your job is to contribute as much as you possibly can to your fellow man.
Is your “Work Ethic” work helping you climb higher mountains? Or keeping you stuck on the same old hill.
If you resonate with my philosophy on work, you need to be a member of New Renaissance Club.
You won’t get this philosophy from most gurus, teachers, coaches or “experts.” Most of them will tell you it’s all about “massive action.”
Then you wake up 5 years later and you’re not any closer to your life goals. Because all that action has just bred…more action.
Think about it.
Seize the day,
Perry
