Long-time Mastermind Club members Joey and Jamie Bridges came to my Autoresponder Seminar, the forerunner of our current Autoresponder Boot Camp, where they discovered a whole new way of thinking about email.

Joey sent me a note the other day that said, “Attached is an e-mail we wouldn’t have written years ago. Thanks to you and your teachings we did and every day someone on our list reads this e-mail.”

Subject: eddie would go

If you have ever been to the North Shore of Oahu it’s likely you have seen a bumper sticker with those three words on it. Stroll around Waiamea Bay for more than a day and it’s likely you will even see someone wearing a t-shirt too.

The reference is to legendary surfer and lifeguard Eddie Aikau. As a lifeguard Eddie kept those who enjoyed the waters of Waimea Bay safe. More than safe, while he was a lifeguard there no a single person lost their life. No small feat considering waves there often reach 30 feet in height.

Why after more than 30 years after his death do you still see stickers, t-shirts, and even a surfing tournament dedicated in his honor?

In one small moment in time, he was on a voyage that was to last 2,500 miles. He was just a a crew member when their canoe developed a leak and capsized. Being over 12 miles from the smallest island Eddie worried that they would not be rescued.

As the story goes, there was no hesitation, he simply volunteered to paddle the distance to ensure the crew would be rescued.

The crew was rescued but Eddie was never found.

Eddie’s willingness to save others in the toughest of conditions and his selfless behavior have ensured that his legend lives on today.

While you may never have to paddle to shore to rescue your crew you certainly may have to battle tough conditions.

When conditions are tough, take a tip from Eddie, take action and be strong.
