Roundtable Chronicles for May 2012

Yesterday in Roundtable, a gentleman explained his business to the group – his approach to a messy, thorny, UGLY business problem.

Dang, it was elegant. I know the business he’s in and 50% are charlatans, 45% are well meaning idiots and only 5% actually know what they’re doing. (That’s true of almost any biz that’s more sophisticated than mustard and hot dogs BTW.)

He’s better than the 5%. He’s in the top 1%.

So he gets done explaining everything he does and we say, “OK so how can the group help you sell more stuff? What do you want to sell and who do you want to sell it to?”

His answer essentially boiled down to: “I want to help butchers, bakers and candlestick makers improve their businesses.”

Which, when translated, means: “I’d really like to make 1/10th the money I really deserve.” The man doesn’t know his own strength.

He absolutely could help a lot of ordinary people – but he doesn’t realize how good he is. He’d be applying Level 10 skills to a Level 3 problem. In fact I should probably title this epistle “Rainmaker Head Trash, Part 3.”

What he really needs to do is set the bar very high and make a bold audacious promise backed by proof. A promise that commands $20K a month instead of $2K.

But here’s my real point:

MOST people who’ve been in Planet Perry have this problem. YOU probably have this problem. MOST of my customers and members are apply Level 7 skills to Level 3 opportunities. Most are way better than they think they are.

Most don’t know how to exercise their AUTHORITY in the marketplace and command high fees. Many of my peeps have ninja marketing skills – in at least 1 or 2 areas – and could be making a whole lot more dinero than they’re making.

This is why Matthew Gillogly and John Paul Mendocha are delivering a program for consultants that’s all about landing you contracts and getting you the dinero you deserve, with the client who’s the right match for you. Level 7 skills –> Level 7 opportunities –> Mucho Dinero.

Zig Ziglar said “Timid salesman have skinny kids.” If your kids are skinny, there’s something you can do about it.
